Dover

1992

Beginning. Dover is formed. Madrid band that sings in English. The Llanos sisters, Amparo and Cristina are the band leaders. The name came from a clothes make for ladies from her parent's boutique in Majadahonda (Madrid); Amparo thought it sounded good and was easy to remember, so that is their name.

Influences. Amparo taught Cristina to play guitar and passed on her musical influences: Nirvana , R.E.M., Beatles... The close relationship between the two is confirmed with the title of their first LP "Sister".

1995

SISTER. After a failed attempt to release a record with the disappeared Madrid label Mojave, they signed up with Everlasting- Caroline España, and in 1995 they released their first album, 'Sister'. The sales results reflect the lack of promotion: only 700 copies. The band members where the same as those that recorded their second album "Devil came to me": Cristina Llanos: voice and guitar; Amparo Llanos: guitars; Jesús Antúnez: drums and Álvaro Gomez: bass. Produced by Amparo Llanos.

1996

New record label. When their contract with Everlasting expired so they signed up with Subterfuge Records, an independent label. They played in a few of the labels parties where they prove that playing live is their best feature. The first recording of this new stage is "Loly Jackson", a great song that opens the 'Stereoparty 2' compilation (the celebrated reference 100 of their new record label).

1997

DEVIL CAME TO ME the album is published the 21st of April. It was recorded and mixed in 20 days, in Madrid, during the beginning of 1997, in Infinty Studios with D. Alcover, and it cost around 800.000 ptas. The cover, a humanised devil goes well with the title and first track of the album "Devil came to me". The lyrics, that in "Sister" where more personal become more fantastic.

Advert. The song "Devil Came to Me" appears as the background music of a Radical Fruit Company advert (were Sir Lancelot murders an orange. While the princess-orange screams "Aaaggh...!", you hear the guitar and a female voice sings "-I lied for you!...I lied for you!..."

Serenade. The first single of the second album was "Serenade", a video clip was made, and this time the promotion was better.

Festivals. Dover are specialists in using the opportunity offered by big music festivals like Festimad and Dr. Music Festival to convince the big audiences.

Line up changes. A short time after they had begun their promotional tour of their second album, Álvaro Gómez (bass) abandoned the group after the Doctor Music Festival in 1997. Then they offered the vacancy to Alvaro Díez ("Dover's first Álvaro", in Amparo's own words), he had been in the band during the demo period.

The results didn't take long to show. For the critics, Dover is considered the best national group of the indie scene. The audiences response was also spectacular, in September 1997 they received their first golden record for the 50.000 copies sold of 'Devil Came to' and this increased to four platinum records; and meanwhile all their concerts were sold out.

Loli Jackson. After their major success in Spain they include a few tracks from "Devil came to me" in the sound track of "A Ciegas", a Daniel Calparsoro film. On the 4th of October they put out their second video clip from "Devil came to me", Loli Jackson, an incredible video directed by this same film director, who mixed in scenes from the film and of the band.

LATE AT NIGHT. Out on the 28th of June by their label 'Loli Jackson Records'-'Chrysalis'. Most of the tracks were created between October 98 and February 99. Recorded in Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, co-produced by Barrett Jones (producer of tracks for Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Presidents of the USA.) and Dover.

Summer. They continue their tour abroad, playing live at a few European Festivals and promotion in America. The highlight of this being when they played at the mythical Viper Room (Los Angeles, U.S.A.). Meanwhile the second single of 'Late at Night', is released: Cherry Lee, only a promotional one.
