Deride

Deride started in the fall of 1995 in Bergen, Norway. The band was originally Børre H. Michelsen - vocals, Ole Walaunet - guitars, Johan Alme - bass & backing vocals and Kjetil Greve - drums. The 11th of May 1996, Deride had their first gig at the local Rock Pub 'Garage', where they impressed everybody with their raw, untamed force. The press described the gig as one of the best debuts ever seen in Bergen.

Over the next two years Deride did more live shows both in Bergen and out of town. The biggest highlight of the live stage was perhaps when Deride was an opening act for the Swedish metal band Entombed at 'Hulen' in Bergen.

Of other highlights was the release of the self-financed mini-cd, simply entitled 'Deride'. This consisted of four tunes: 'Never Again', 'Wardust', 'Self Deceive' and 'Holocaust', and received great reviews in almost every magazine that reviewed it, no matter if the magazines were from Norway or elsewhere in the world.

The cd has been aired lots of times in different Norwegian radio-channels, and by some occasions in Brazilian and Chilean radio. Amongst others this lead to a phone call from a Norwegian record-label, some e-mails from labels worldwide, and lots of e-mails from fans all over the world.

After a while the personal interests in the band began to point out in different directions. This destroyed much of the creativity and fun in the band, and by fall of 1998 Alme felt he couldn't contribute anymore, and quit. This was a decision that was hard to make, but as the situation had become like it had, it was the best for both parts. Soon after him, Michelsen quit as well, leaving Walaunet and Greve without a singer & a bass player. They went into a frustrating year, in which they tried hard to find musicians to replace Alme and Michelsen. This was much harder than expected in Bergen, being a small town with a small musical environment.

By fall of 1999, things again began to settle. They found a new singer: Frediablo. The only problem was that he was living 300 km away from them, so tunes were made sending tapes back and forth, something that actually worked out pretty well. During this period, they made 3 new songs, 'Another Day', 'Through it All' & 'Godfed'. These 3 tracks became the one's landing them a record deal with New York based record label, The Music Cartel. Deride continued to make new songs, while trying out different bassplayers, but noone seemed to fit into the future plans of the band.

Deride recorded and released their debut album " Scars Of Time " in June 2001. The guys decided to do the album as a 3-piece. It received great reviews all over the world!
