In late 2007 Hank Shermann took his next step to contribute to the metal scene after over 30 years in the business. It was time to show the community where it all began. Hank wanted to make it heavier and more brutal than ever. With a legendary past in Mercyful Fate and inspirator for such bands as Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Exodus, Forbidden and so on, he thought he wanted to give something back.
Shermann hooked up with old friend, metal journalist and vocalist, Klaus Hyr, who’d pressed on for years, trying to get Hank do some serious metal. Hank brought Hyr in for a session and liked what he heard so much that they recorded the first song “Fast and Furious“ a classic thrash metal song. A lyric that had been hidden in Klaus’s drawer since 1990, only waiting for the right moment to come along. Second song was quickly recorded, and the style of what was to become DEMONICA, was a reality.
Recordings continued throughout 2008. Songs as “Palace of Glass“ and “My Tongue“ - took shape. Serious metal that couldn’t be shared with anybody less than some of the original Bay Area thrashers. Hank and Hyr wanted people in, that knew what Demonica was supposed to sound like!
Craig Locicero (Forbidden/Spiralarms) was the first to come to mind, Craig was contacted and there was not a seconds doubt in his mind that he would want in on the job. Forbidden re-united in 2008 and had a hell of a good time and decided to continue and make a new album. With their new drummer Mark Hernandez, Forbidden was more evil than ever. Hank and Klaus still needed the rhythm section, drums and bass, and asked Craig if he had any good ideas? “Use Mark, he’s the shark“. Mark was more than willing to help out.
Mark Hernandez (Forbidden/Re-ignition/Defiance) Might just be the hardest working drummer in all of the Bay Area scene, and just added a new band to his list: DEMONICA
Marc Grabowski bass/vocal and man behind Colorado’s metal heroes Corruption, was to fill out the last spot in DEMONICA. Grabowski plays six string bass and has the perfect feeling and ability to make DEMONICA more than your average metal experience. DEMONICA plays brutal Thrash Metal - Seriously!
