Charlotte Perrelli

After nine years of artistic performances at the highest possible level, Charlotte Perrelli (former Nilsson) returns to the Eurovision Song Contest with the winning song 'Hero'.

When Charlotte first heard 'Hero' she immediately said yes to participate again despite turning down many offers over the nine years. The song and timing was right.

Charlotte was born on October 7, 1974.

At the age of 13 she started singing and a few years later she enrolled 'Scenskolan' (Stage school) in Växjö. After her school years in southern Sweden she moved to Stockholm where she started studying jazz and pop. In the next few years Charlotte performed as the lead singer in dfferent band. She also won a Grammis (Swedish Grammy) and was awarded Gold and Platinum disks for her work.

In 1999 Charlotte enters the Melodifestivalen as a solo singer and wins with 'Tusen och en natt'. For the ESC the song is in English, 'Take Me To Your Heaven'. In Jerusalem Charlotte quickly becomes a media darling and the audience´s favorite. After a tough battle she wins the ESC.

In the next coming years Charlotte tours, not only Sweden, bur Europe, Asia, New Zeeland and Australia. She launches her own line of beauty products and in 2003 Charlotte plays the lead character in Jesus Christ Superstar with West Ends Emsemble.

In 2004, Charlotte and her husband Nicola, change their last names to Perrelli and later that year she hosts the Swedish contest for ESC with great success with a total viewing of more than 15 million people.

Two years later she is nominated for 'Guldmasken' for her role as Bell in the Disney-musical 'Beauty and the beast'. Later that year she, finally, has the opportunity to pay tribute to her idol, jazz icon Monica Zetterlund, by releasing an album with songs by Monica.

But in 2008 it is time for the humble diva to return!

On the night of the 15th of March Charlotte Perrelli wins the Swedish contest with ''Hero'.
