Bonnie Owens

One of the early stars of the Bakersfield, California, country crowd, Bonnie Owens married Buck Owens in 1948 and divorced him a few years later. In the 50s Bonnie Owens began recording and, in the latter half of the 60s, she scored a number of chart records for Tally and Capitol. Bonnie Owens is best known, however, as one of the background singers who made up the great harmony sound on many of the hits of Merle Haggard, whom she married in 1965. Bonnie Owens continued to tour with Merle long after they divorced in 1978.
