Blazin' Squad

The Blazin' Squad story kicked off 3 years ago in ten teenage bedrooms across North London when school-mates MC Freek, Melo-d, Strider, Reepa, Krazy, Spike-e, Flava, Rocky B, Kenzie and DJ Tommy B got together and started mixing up some havoc of their own.

"We started out as a straightforward MC crew," explains Rocky B. "Now we're experimenting with everything - R 'n' B, pop and hip hop. Our sound is weighty. There's no other way to describe it."

Having just completed their GCSEs, Blazin' Squad are now concentrating on recording their debut album. "Our first single 'Crossroads' is a cover of the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony hit," says DJ Tommy B. "I heard the track on MTV and took it to the boys. They thought it was wicked.

"Listing their influences as everyone from Eminem, Heartless Crew and DMX to stand-out pop acts like Sugababes, Blue and Usher, Blazin' Squad are ready to transcend any obvious lyrical and musical expectations. "We're mixing every style of music," says Krazy. "Some of our songs are about us, others are just proper love songs. We're rapping about everything from super heroes to bank robbers - stuff that our mates can relate to. It's pop with the sharpest edge."

Blazin' Squad met years ago on the grounds of Highams Park School in North East London. "We're no manufactured act" states Flava. "We started when we were thirteen years-old." Before Blazin' Squad, there were two crews: Blazin' Squad and The Incredible Crew. The two crews joined forces in early 2000 to become Blazin' Squad. "A mate who was doing work experience in a studio invited us to hang out with the two producers Tapps and Terry," continues Flava. "They asked us to put a demo together. Thats where it all began."

It wasn't long before Tapps and Terry realised they had a huge talent on their hands. The group recorded the pumping anthem, "Standard Flow" and released it on Blazin' Squad's very own label, Weighty Plates. Before long they were making a name for themselves on the underground. "Word gets around," says Strider. "Dreem Team and EZ started playing our tune and now it's on a couple of dance compilations. The track found its way to EastWest Records and, 'bam', we got a recording deal."With their urban edge, slick beats and raw energy, Blazin' Squad are a group of lads with an amazing talent and uncontrollable passion destined to land them in a league of their own. "Our dream is to make great music and have a number one album. Then we want to make a mark on America," states DJ Tommy B. "Basically we're ready to do some damage."!!!
