Joe, Paul and Amy of AVOID ONE THING were all kids from Boston (Amy is from New Hampshire first) who grew up in the punk rock scene, playing in bands like Gangreen, The Mighty Mighty BossTones, Mung, Darkbuster and The Raging Teens. In late 2001 they recorded songs Joe had kicking around his house and in 2002 they decided it was fun and they were a band.
They tried out 16 drummers before Joe finally called his friend Dave Karcich who was living in New York. Dave loved the music and was so happy to join the band and their first tour (with H2O and BigWig) in preparation for their debut release on Los Angeles-based SideOneDummy Records. On April 5th, 2002 Dave passed away suddenly, tragically, due to a brain aneurysm. The band was devastated as was everyone Dave had touched so deeply.
Eventually, they knew that Dave would have wanted them to continue. Joe, Paul and Amy have since done a nationwide tour with Flogging Molly and The Casualties, played the Warped Tour and have put out music on different compilation CD's such as the Atticus comp and Obey Giant. Their self-titled debut CD has been warmly embraced--referred to as “one of the year’s best” by Heidi Cuda of the LA Times. They are currently touring, writing music and getting food all over the floor of the van. In 2003 they will release their next record and play in a place near you.
In the tradition of bands like the Replacements, Jawbreaker, The Pixies and Sugar, AVOID ONE THING is friends, people who have lived, and songs you can love.
