In 1987 in D.C... Joe Banks, Brian Stewart, Doug Crosby, and Mikey Warstler started a band called AVAIL. In 1988 they recorded a tape called "Each Other." Also in 1988, Doug and Mikey leave to be replaced by Tim Barry and D.J. Grimes. In 1990, they recorded a tape called "Reaching Out". Then in 1991 they release a 7" "Who's to Say?" on Sun Spot Records. In 1992 Beau Beau joins after leaving the Navy, and Erik LArson and Chuck McCauly joi the band.
Also Tim now takes over the job of vocals. Now in 1992... Tim Barry on vocals, Joe Banks on guitar, Chuck McCauly on bass, Erik Larson on drums, and Beau Beau their cheerleader move to Richmond,VA and assume the offical line up of AVAIL. Later that year in 1992 they release 2 7"s on Catheter Records: "Satiate" and "Attempt to Regress". These recording show up on the 1993 L.P. Release on Lookout! Records "Satiate". They also put out a live 7" "Live at Kings Head Inn" on Morning Glory Records. In 1994 two big events happend... AVAIL released the "Dixie" LP on Lookout!, and Chuck is replaced on Bass with Rob Kelshian. Again in 1996...
They released the "4a.m. Friday" LP on Lookout!, and Rob is now replaced on Bass with Gwomper! Now in 1997 they release a split with the (young)Pioneers called "The Fall Of Richmond" Later in 1997 they record a live album at The Bottom Of The Hill In San Francisco. Now in 1998 they release the "Over the james" LP on Lookout! After that they left Lookout! to sign with Fat Wreck Chords in 1999. They have recorded a song called "Taken" for a Fat Wreck comp, a Motorhead song for a metal comp on a different label, and a 30 sec country song for another comp on Fat.
