Aphasia n: Partial or total loss of the ability to articulate ideas or comprehend spoken or written language, resulting from damage to the brain caused by injury or disease.

Aphasia draws from a number of musical styles and artistic influences, combining industrial and electronic music with grunge, and dark progressive rock. The music is bound together by Carruthers’ evocative lyrics on loss, fate, desire, sexual needs and man’s disposition to consume and destroy.
In 2001, while attending the Music Industry Arts Program at Fanshawe College (London, Ontario), Aphasia recorded their first EP ‘The Endless Reverie’. Within a year, they began playing regularly at London’s Call The Office and other venues across Southern Ontario. Recently, Aphasia opened for Orgy on the Canadian leg of their tour in Toronto at Lee’s Palace and Montreal at Club Soda.

After completing College, Aphasia felt stymied by London’s erratic music scene and moved to Toronto in the summer of 2003 to begin recording the much-anticipated full-length album ‘Hereafter’. Coinciding with the production of “Hereafter”, bassist Stephany Seki was recruited to finalize Aphasia’s line up.

The self-produced full-length album ‘Hereafter’ was released in early December of 2003 to a packed, all-ages CD release party at Toronto’s Club 360 with other Toronto favourites: Les Six and The Birthday Massacre.
Currently Aphasia is developing new material, playing shows and shopping for a record deal.
