In the beginning... 1/15/2003 12:11:28 PM - by lucky13en
Twisted Method hails from the town of Cape Coral, FL. It is a town that consists of the newly wed, the nearly dead, and everyone in between. Two of these Cape Coma citizens, Andrew Howard and Ben Goins, met in High School as Ben overheard Andrew talking about his ambitions to start a band and rule the world. This piqued Ben’s interest and the two began to discuss starting a band together. The two young boys being only 14 years old would have to enlist in the aid of they’re mothers to drive Andrew over to Ben’s so they could practice in his room. Down the street from Ben’s house was the DeSantis house, where we find Derek DeSantis. He would come over and hang out with the two. They would jam out for hours but Derek felt left out. So since Derek was hanging out all the time anyway, the summer after their freshman year, Derek went to a pawn shop and pawned his Playstation to buy a bass. And then there were three.
During they’re sophomore year at Mariner High School the three tried out other guitarists but none of them seemed to quite work out. However, one of the tryouts knew a kid whose parents were in bands so he had a PA system. The band invited the kid to come over and hook up his PA and microphones to mic the instruments. During the practice the kid asked if he could sing, the band obliged and so he did. He continued to sing for the band until the present day. The kid’s name was Derrick Tribbett. Since the band already had a Derek, and he is quite a “trip” he was later nicknamed “Tripp”.
So then Andy, Ben, Derek, and Tripp went on to play local bars, talent shows, a pep rally, and numerous private parties. The four of them have grown up together and are tight like brothers and down like four flat tires. This tightness and brotherly sense of unity has allowed this group to stay together through fights, injury, girls, times of loss, being broke as f*%#, depression, pain, illness and being broke as f*%#. The band played together for about 4 years locally slowly building a name for themselves.
One day the Twisted Method heard of an opportunity to open for another local band, Cinder, who was showcasing for a label. Being the savvy businessmen they are, they quickly jumped at the opportunity. There was a meeting at a local restaurant to coordinate the show. At the meeting the boys met Charlie Pennachio, the manager Cinder. Charlie was impressed with the boys and was looking forward to seeing them live. A few weeks later the show happened and Charlie’s expectations of the band were exceeded. He approached the band shortly after with management contracts. The contracts were looked over by an attorney and signed thus binding Twisted Method and 3Sixty Management.
Stated in the contract was the manager’s obligation to get the band signed within a six-month period. It happened in five. Twisted Method after showcasing for a number of labels was signed to MCA Records without even having a demo tape! The label was impressed with their live performance so much that they made an offer the band couldn’t refuse. The band accepted and was officially signed to MCA Records.
In August of 2002 the band flew to LA to record their first CD. This was their first time getting a chance to live on their own away from home. They had a blast! Then pre-production for the studio started and it was solid work then on out. The band worked long hours for a month getting everything tight and ready to go. They then worked many longer hour days in the studio for 2 more months laying down tracks and editing. The boys learned a lot in LA about studios about the business and about themselves.
The CD aptly named “Escape from Cape Coma”, a tongue-in-cheek reference to their hometown, will be released on MCA Records in June of 2003. Look for it, as well as the band coming through a town near you.
