The Hold Steady Show at The Waiting Room
Opening for The Hold Steady were Mount Carmel. After this warming up performance, The Hold Steady came on with some new songs.
“Teeth Dreams”, a song about bad dreams and friendship, “Look Alive”, which was premiered at this show, and “Let’s Wait Awhile”, indisputably the best one of the band’s new musical products.
Craig Finn, The Hold Steady frontman, said that “Look Alive” was about homeless people in Minneapolis who dressed like cowboys. Apparently they are a lot. The track featured lyrics like “He doesn’t feel that good about himself/ He doesn’t look alive.”
About “Let’s Wait Awhile”, Finn said it doesn’t have the title of a rock song. But it doesn’t matter, ‘cause it certainly rocks! It’s catchy and the hooks from lead guitarist Tad Kubler really do the trick. The chorus also hits it spot on with lyrics like, “Once they hear you have a broken heart, they’re gonna come around and try to make you smile./ Little girl, don’t you rush right in./ Why don’t you wait awhile?”
Craig Finn, 40, is a regular-looking guy, not really your usual frontman. His voice really works with the band and you can see he really enjoys doing what he does.
The band ended the show with some already known rock songs like “Constructive Summer”, “Sequestered in Memphis”, “Chicago Seemed Tired Last Night” or “How a Resurrection Really Feels”.
The show brought a lot of people at The Waiting Room but it wasn’t completely full. Probably because everybody assumed the tickets immediately sold out for a band like this and also because the College World Series was happening at the same time.
But The Hold Steady had an amazing performance. They ended with “We’re The Hold Steady and that is how a resurrection really feels. Thank you, Omaha. We love you. Stay positive.”
Well, we certainly do love and thank them for their good music!
