Taylor Swift, Maroon 5 and Nicky Minaj among 2011 American Music Awards winners
The first winning of last night's ceremony 2011 American Music Awards was given to the rock band Maroon 5 which were named Favorite Pop Rock Band/Duo/Group. The show debuted with Nicki Minaj's robot-styled performance, which also sang with David Guetta their single-collabo 'Turn Me On'.
Adam Levine and his bandmates beat up LMFAO and OneRepublic for the award. Taylor Swift was announced Favorite Country Female Artist, winning over Sara Evans and Miranda Lambert. The night continued with three great performances from Pop sensation Justin Bieber who sang his Christmas song "Mistletoe", The Band Perry and Chris Brown. The latter performed a medley of two tracks "All Black" and "Say It With Me". He danced a futuristic choreography with his backdancers. The Band Perry took the stage with their single "If I Die Young". They lost their dream awards New Artist of the Year, Favorite Country Band/Duo/Group and Favorite Country Album.
Unfortunately for Brown, shortly after the performance, he lost his <B>Favorite Soul/R&B Album nomination to ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
Nicki Mianj was handed her first AMA win for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist. Being the only female rapper nominated in the category she won over male seniors Kanye West and Lil Wayne. After her acceptance speech, Rihanna was called Favorite Soul/R&B Album, but she missed the event.
The prizes-given event that took place last night, November 20th, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles also awarded Lady Antebellum Favorite Country Band/Duo/Goup. OneRepublic was introduced to the scene by Adam Lambert and performed their hit single "Good Life".
The next award went to Hot Chelle Rae. The band who previously presented Swift with Favorite Country Female Artist returned to the stage to bring home their first AMA trophy as <B>Sprint New Artist of the Year. They accepted the gong from Jonas Brothers' Joe Jonas. The band, who served as Swift's opening act for her "Speak Now" tour, won the award over Foster the People, The Band Perry, Thompson Square, Marsha Ambrosius, Miguel, LMFAO and Wiz Khalifa.
Before they received the trophy, Katy Perry was presented with a special achievement award by Heidi Klum. The "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)" hitmaker was recognized for becoming the first woman in the history of pop music to have five No. 1 singles from one album, thanks to 2010's "Teenage Dream". And she previously performed "The One That Got Away".
The girl power continued as Jennifer Lopez was announced as a winner for Favorite Latin Artist. She beat Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull, and accepted the prize from presenters Matthew Morrison and Jennifer Morrison. Before winning the award, she performed a medley of "Until It Beats No More" / "Papi" / "On the Floor".
