Slim Dusty

Slim Dusty - Dust and Saddle Grease lyrics

rate me

Oh I may be rather dusty an Im saddle grease engrained,

But my cattle be lusty an' my thirst's beyond restrain,

But if you see me in your town, don't think the worst of me,

Although Im poor and liquor downed, I'm not all what I seem.

You may think me just a boozin' amongst another drunken lout,

And you'd reprimand your daughter if I were to take her out.

But where you'd be without us mum and others such as I

You wouldn't get that pound of beef for your old mans shepherds pie.

Yeah I may have dust and saddle grease engrained in my hide,

An' my only claim to fame maybe that I can bloody ride,

I once rode a bull goanna down a tree without a cropper,

And with my hat rope comin down I planted it on my shoulder.

Yes I'll ride almost anything in encased in hide or hair,

So lock up all your daughters mum an' tell them to beware,

And you better take your washing, lock your poultry in the coop,

Cause I know that you dont trust us bushmen on the scoop.

But I doubt if I'll be staying long, don't care for city ways,

The way you rush and carry on, no time to say "Good day."

And the smell of city livin is offensive to my nose,

And the language you give your children, doesnt lend itself to crows.

Now Ill soon be rollin' up me swag and movin on again,

The country that you've never seen, The Great Dividing Range.

I'm more at home way out there with others of my kind,

And Ill have no regrets at all when leaving you behind.

Yeah I may have dust and saddle grease engrained in my hide,

An' my only claim to fame maybe that I can bloody ride,

I once rode a bull goanna down a tree without a cropper,

And with my hat rope comin down I planted it on my shoulder.

Hey!
