Ron Sexsmith has a new album out: Carousel One. We couldnt approve with it moreA real blast to hear Canadian pop songwriters again. There's a touch of country in his songs, and that's what makes us love it all the more.

Like many other songs, these ones use the Lord as a common phrase, sparking it up with a bit of belief, raising spirits up with a round of drinks when that doesn't work, like in "Lord Knows". Of course his songs are a bit mellow, but there's always hope, and it's the necessary mellow that makes that road to hope all the livelier. There's a bit of negativism in the title of "Can't Get My Act Together", but the song's bout a highly realistic view of relationships. One can't help another if he himself is helpless. "All our tomorrows and yesterdays were days we had to borrow". Now ain't that a bummer? Only a near-death experience can hit you with that resolution, right? Well, I don't know. Faith certainly strays you down that same road. Life is transitory. That's Christianity (and many other religions) in a nutshell, not pessimism. And that song called "No One"? Come on, you guys! I've got no-one to sing to but my guardian angel? His songs are literally kicking you out the door, leaving you drenched in misery, but they're concomitantly getting the light on the porch for you, so you can see where it is you wanna go. These songs are too good if they do that much to you, I'm telling you! Enjoy!
