Ne-Yo

I guess what's left from the old Ne-Yo, the one from seven years ago, is the beat, but I can't even say that's the same. I can't wait for a video to come out, to check if his swag is still there. The songs are ok, don't get me wrong, but there's something about the little things, the general impression of disorder (there aren't really stanzas and refrains anymore, are there?), the cheesy little verses that ruin every drop of spunk these songs have in them.

Take 'Make It Easy', for example.

'If it's early in the mornin' and my breath stink Would you roll over kissin' on me like it ain't?'

Music, art in general, soothes everyday bagatelle. It makes it sweet, it gives it rhythm, it incorporates your daily trifle into something more. The bad breath, if you put it in a verse using the word 'stink', doesn't really cut it.

In his new song called 'I Love You'(not the old 'I Love You' from 2008), he goes all philosophical:

'Takes ten seconds for a damn text message to send But how long does it take to read and understand it is the question'

How long can it take, Wittgenstein?! Less than ten seconds, I'm guessing, unless you're texting Jabba the Hutt.

Anyway, all that aside, I cannot wait to hear more from him. He's been singing on some aspiring artists, singing them demos, and working hard in the studio. I'm guessing that stinky mouth lyrics and deep metaphysical SMS thoughts are just a phase in Ne-Yo's career.
