Rapper Nas shows his parent skills in the new clip Daughters
As a lesson for any father, rapper Nas brings his real-life daughter in his newly premiered clip in support of "Daughters" single. It can't get any personal that this for the family-inspired track. Premiered on MTV Jams Sunday, May 27, the brand new clip actually shares the "Hate Me Now" rapper's trials and tribulations of being a father to his daughter, Destiny Jones, from the day she was born (June 15, 1994) until she becomes a 17-year-old teenager. "They say the coolest playas and foulest heart breakers in the world/ God gets us back, he makes us have precious little girls", she raps.
Directed by Chris Robinson, the video is told through the eyes of Destiny, who is making a cameo at the end. "I think that this song for Nas is so personal, everything in the song is real, that he wanted to share this moment with his fans, with the world, and it was actually his suggestion," Robinson told MTV News. "I was ready to cast someone, and he was real calm and said, 'Hey, Dest is gonna be here, I think we need to keep it real.' "
Taken from Nas' tenth studio album Life Is Good, Daughters puts Nas' parenting skills under the spotlight. His three-minute video opens up with the sound of a baby crying, before Destiny's name and date of birth are being displayed. The 38-year-old MC later clarified, however, that there is a mistake on the birth date. "Sorry about the Bday mix up at the start of Daughters video, editor got it wrong. Destiny's Bday is June 15," he tweeted. The Queensbridge rapper touches on the incident where she twitpic'd a photo of condoms by her bed and tackles the issue off driving under the influence!
Life Is Good will hit the shelves in the United States on July 17. Enjoy the clip below.
