Laurie Donaldson - IM INTHE GREEN ZONE lyrics

rate me

I’M IN THE GREEN ZONE

I lie at night and hear the bombs, firing of guns and the screams late into the night

I am thinking of you and looking at your face in a picture in the gleam of the lamplight.

I read my mother’s letters tonight as the stains on the pages of her tear drops jumped out at me from the shine of the nightly moon.

She told me how much she missed me and the cookies and newspapers will be shipped from home soon.

OH OH IM IN THE GREEN ZONE OH HOW I WANT TO GO HOME

IN OUR FAVORITE PLACE I WANT TO BE

HOLDING YOU UNDER THAT OLD OAK TREE

OH OH IM IN THE GREEN ZONE OH HOW I WANT TO GO HOME.

I’M IN THE GREEN ZONE

In the darkness my thoughts of you and my family wishing I could hold and kiss you under the old oak tree

You sent me a picture of you; tears blinded me so I could barely see.

I lay thinking that when I get home that maybe we should have a kid or two.

I'm wishing that the war would end and that I would be going home to my family and you.

OH OH IM IN THE GREEN ZONE OH OH HOW I WANT TO GO HOME

TO THE PLACE WHERE I WAS BORN

WHERE MY HEART CANNOT BE TORN

UNDER THE OLD OAK TREE

JUST YOU AND ME

OH OH IM IN THE GREEN ZONE OH OH HOW I WANT TO GO HOME

.

On patrol in the streets a flash as a bomb explodes in front of a hummer and a few good men burn and die.

Some Iraq’s dancing in the streets as tears run down our faces as our friends in front of us burn and fry.

My third tour in Iraq and the men are getting war torn

The men want to return to the country in which they were born.

The streets of Bagdad are an unbelievable ravaged sight.

We are tired of the endless senseless fight.

OH OH I’M IN THE GREEN ZONE OH OH HOW I WANT TO GO HOME

WHERE MY FAMILY IS BY MY SIDE

WHERE I NO LONGER HAVE TO HIDE

WHERE I CAN WALK FREE

WHERE I CAN JUST BE

OH OH I’M IN THE GREEN ZONE OH OH HOW I WANT TO GO HOME

.

I called my wife and said don’t worry it was just another typical day.

As we try to figure out whom the enemies are and try to keep them at bay.

On patrol in the streets of Bagdad a flash of light as a bomb explodes under our hummer and rips through our bodies and take off our face.

I see the tears on my mothers and my wife’s face as I am with god as I take my heavenly place.

I’M IN THE GREEN ZONE.

My casket is dressed in America’s best.

As I go home for my final last place of rest.

OH OH I’M IN THE GREEN ZONE.

IM WITH GOD IN THE GREEN ZONE

OH OH IM IN THE GREEN ZONE

IM ALL ALONE IN THE GREEN ZONE
