Laura Mvula Bookie’s Favorite for Mercury Prize
According to the latest odds from William Hill, the new favorite to win this year's Mercury Prize is Laura Mvula.
“Laura Mvula looks like one of the great bets of the year. We have a load of very shrewd Music prize bettors and many of them have managed to get 16/1 that she will win on Wednesday night," declared Rupert Adams, spokesaman for William Hill.
The Birmingham soul singer has produced what the bookmakers are calling the "biggest price move in the history of betting on the prize," and her debut album Sing To The Moon is now 5/2 favorite to win next Wednesday (October 30).
“We have been betting on this award for two decades and nobody can remember a price move like it,” the William Hill spokesperson said. “It looks like the market underestimated her and if she goes on to win we are going to have a shocker.”
