Catherine began singing and playing music back when her first used Sears guitar was still larger than she. Her first original tune was written with her best girlfriend for their junior high talent show. Her stage debut happened at Tom’s Foolery in Mount Pleasant as a CMU student.
Catherine’s journey since has been filled with singing, writing, and performing in venues as diverse as the back of a hay-filled pick-up truck in a small-town parade to Kalamazoo’s Fetzer Institute and Nashville’s Vanderbilt University stage. In addition to her years of performing with the bands Acoustrio, Counterpoint, The Full Circle Band and Ellis, Gorman, & Michael, some of her most exciting moments have been opportunities to sing onstage with Joel Mabus, Mark Shatz (of Nickel Creek), Pat Flynn (formerly of Newgrass Revival), Anne Hills, and Candace Corrigan (Anderson).
She has recorded two CDs, “Looking to a Future” with Counterpoint, and a solo project, “Time Again”.
Most recently, she has begun an exciting collaboration, Carmea, a trio with Rachel Alexander (Lansing, MI) on cello, fiddle, bass, recorder, melodica, and Alma Muxlow (Kalamazoo) on mandola.
As a Quaker, Catherine welcomes the opportunity to work and sing for peace. She offers workshops in Music and Healing and Songs of Peace, Protest, and Social Justice.
Catherine is also a psychotherapist in private practice with programs available in stress management and diversity training.
