Karoline Kruger

Karoline Kruger was born on February 13, 1970 in Bergen, Norway. She is a composer, a singer and an actress.

Karoline Kruger is to be found in the "Land-of-in-between". She has, first and foremost, since her debut nearly two decades ago, firmly established herself in the flora of Norwegian performing artists, as an exciting and gifted performer and composer. One of her hallmarks has always been her willingness to seek out new forms of expression - the theatre being one of them. "The difference between the performing artist and the actor" she says, "was already clearly visible to me in the days of schoolplay performances. Those who dreamed of becoming actors wanted to play the part of the Witch : we budding performers were only interested in playing Snow White...!"

In the course of sixteen years Karoline Kruger has released six solo albums and has been featured on numerous others. Her debut album, Fasetter (Facets) was released in 1988. It was with Fuglehjerte (The Heart Of A Bird) that she really blossomed as lyricist and composer. The trilogy of the "Jacob's Mass", for which she wrote the music, have since the first performance in Oslo in 2000, been performed and broadcasted in several Scandinavian countries. Her solo CD De To Stemmer (The Two Voices), based on lyrics by Norwegian poet André Bjerke, received exellent reviews and was also nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Award 2005.

The latest years, Karoline has enjoyed great success on the stage of the theater : a major role in the critically acclaimed modern cabaret version of Ibsen's "Peer Gynt" has taken her amongst others to Barcelona, Lisboa, Hamburg and New York. And in the autumn of 2007, her musical show "Da Hana Møtte Henne" (When He Met Her), with acclaimed Norwegian actor Espen Hana, sold out all of the 50 performances at Rogaland Theater, Stavanger.

Although truly enjoying both her compositary work and invitations as guest-actress, it is as a concert performer Karoline has made her mark. Whether the form it takes is simple and bequiling or dramatically melodious, it is always interwoven with the narrative. The music and the written or spoken word forming a whole... Karoline's work in the theatre has expanded her field of expression, both as a composer and as a singer : "I felt free to choose a different narrative voice than that of young Karoline Kruger from Bergen in Norway !" This statement is clearly verified by the unique atmosphere she creates in her stage performances.

Karoline lives in Bergen, Norway with her husband, performing artist Sigvart Dagsland, and their two daughters.
