Seasons in the Field

We thought we had it all All grown up inside our skin Take a guess and mind your tongue Bring it on let love begin today Life was never simpler than It was just another time We tried to find convention without losing peace of mind I measured time that summer With songs and sets of strings Duty seemed so far away One more song before summer ends Season keep on measuring The time we spend on Earth None of that made sense back then And no one saw the worth Friendships come and love times flow And we are all made of dust The moment and the vision Am I sure it’s what I really saw? Years began to change like seasons in the field The crops left they gave so much Our time won’t last forever No matter what we thought And freedom can’t be bought Looking in the mirror We did the best we could A bargain with the devil Is always paid and then we run Nothing was so real then As waking up these days And that was before me Were scattered thoughts that circled around my mind I had no vision I was living inside a cloud Inside then was more than God allowed Then one day when all that passed I’ve woken to myself A thousand days had come and gone And outside there was autumn in the trees Each precious moment Was a blessing in disguise I never saw so clearly It was right before my eyes Our time won’t last forever No matter what we thought And freedom can’t be bought Looking in the mirror We did the best we could A bargain with the devil Is always paid and then we run I still see a moment that keeps living in my heart I can turn my back on memories They open all the doors that shield today On a foundation we’ve been building since our youth I got close and each friend grabbed me in truth
