Funniest S Club moment: “There’s one episode of Hollywood 7 where I have to dress as a woman. I had a blue sparkly Oscar-style ball-gown, with long black gloves and a black wig. I looked absolutely hideous!”
Biography
Ever since he was a small boy, growing up in Devon, Jon Lee always knew he was going to be famous. Surprisingly though, worldwide success has still come as something of a shock to the system.
“When we were first told the plans for S Club, I thought ‘Wow, this sounds great, if even half of it happens, that’d be cool,’ so it’s a major shock that everything has gone so to plan. Most bands peak at first and then slowly fade, but we’ve had a peak and managed to build on it too.”
But Jon should be used to success by now. Even if he hadn’t joined S Club, he was cruising the right way to celebrity. At the age of four he appeared on stage for the first time at school, before treading the boards in London’s west end as the lead in Oliver, a role in BBC’s The Mill On The Floss and of course playing Josh in EastEnders. He also studied at the Sylvia Young Theatre School alongside Billie Piper and ex-Five star Scott Robinson.
Jon may be able to turn sarcasm into an artform, but there are some things he’s deadly serious about: environmental and animal issues, his dog Molly and especially his family.
Something that the youngest member of the group finds it hard to get is the variety of people who watch their TV shows. “Our local university love it” he laughs. “And the prison near me, they watch it too. I guess it must have all-round appeal.”
