John Mayer sells 219,000 copies, dethrones Adam Lambert on Billboard Hot 200While Adam Lambert made history last week with his Trespassing album, debuting with 77,000 copies this week John Mayer took the lead in the charts with hte debut of his Born and Raised studio album. Adam's album has fallen down onto Number 12, selling only 22,000 copies this week. Despite suffered from granuloma, and the promotion was delayed John Mayer still managed to sell 219,000 copies.

It marks Mayer's third No. 1 album in Billboard Hot 200, following 2009's Battle Studies, which bowed with 289,000, and 2003's Heavier Things, which topped the chart with 317,000. Speaking of the album's projection last Friday, May 25, the "Shadow Days" singer wrote on his official Tumblr that it "is just incredible on all your parts because there has been very little I've been able to do to promote it."

Both of Adele's <I>21 and Carrie Underwood's Blown Away are holding firm to their last week position at No. 2 and 3 respectively. Meanwhile, Slash starts at No. 4 with his second solo album, Apocalyptic Love, and One Direction's Up All Night jumps back to No. 5 with 37,000 copies. Two other newcomers on the charts are MercyMe's The Hurt & the Healer and Sara Bareilles' five-song EP Once Upon Another Time [EP]. The former bows at No. 7 by selling nearly 33,000 copies in its first week, while the latter enters at No. 8 with 31,000. "American Idol" winner, Phillip Phillips, also gets his <I>Journey to the Finale album debuting at No. 11.

Last week, after disco pioneer Donna Summer died, sales jumped 3,277 percent, and her excellent compilation On the Radio: Greatest Hits Volumes I & II sold 6,000 copies and returned to the charts at Number 73. This week, after Robin Gibb died, the Bee Gees surged in the U.K. Their 2004 compilation Number Ones launched from Number 34 to Number Five, beating its previous high of Number Seven.
