Listen: Passion Pit's second single I'll Be Alright from comeback album Gossamer
Bearing a Rustie influence, but keeping a radio-courting elegance that we rarely hear these days, Passion Pit debuts a new material - a track called "I'll Be Alright" which follows the release of comeback single "Take A Walk" which landed a month ago and received great responses.
When Passion Pit's Take A Walk was released in May, its recession-based lyrics and familiar-sounding synths weren't the explosive comeback it was expected from the band's first track for three years. Thankfully, on I'll Be Alright’ bandleader Michael Angelakos has plugged into the unfamiliar sounds of glitchy, maximalist Warp producers like Rustie and Hudson Mohawke, and now there's dynamite (and darkness) to spare. His first words: "Can you remember ever having any fun?/ Cause when it's all said and done I always believed we were/ But now I'm not so sure," the effect of which completely subverts the whiz-bang synths and gleeful "oh-oh-OHs!"
Endlessly twisting and distorting his voice through something called a "kaleidoloop", he turns his attention to more personal affairs as he sings about gin-swigging, pill-necking and bad times before announcing: "Go if you want to, I'll be alright".
"Take A Walk" and "I'll Be Alright" are included on Passion Pit's sophomore album Gossamer previously announced, which will be released this summer, July 23. Listen to their fantastic new singles below and grab the 2012 Tour dates after the jump.
