NAS debuts Amy Winehouse-collaborative single Cherry Wine
Less than a day after having his and Amy Winehouse's music compiled into one long-form mixtape, Nas gives Radio 1 the honor of debuting "Cherry Wine", the duo's Salaam Remi-produced collabo from the MC's much anticipated 4th hip-hop album Life Is Good. The song premiered July 4th on BBC Radio 1, and was described by Nas as a "very special song". In his short interview with Tim Westwood Nas also expressed his continued disbelief that Winehouse is no longer with us.
"She was so full of life," he said. "I still can't even believe it. … She just had a big spirit." The laid back, gentle soul beat works wonders as a backdrop for Nas to trade verses with the late R&B song.
"Where is he/ The man who's just like me/ Heard he is hiding somewhere I can't see/ And I'm alone/ And I realize that when I get home/ I wanna go through my red and my cherry/ Yes I'm alone/ And I realize that when I get home/ I wanna go through my red and my cherry", Amy smoothly sings.
The rugged MC and the golden-throated singer had grown very close over the years and were even planning to throw a party together to celebrate their shared September 14th birthdays. Unfortunately, the party never happened, as Winehouse died three months before turning 28. They never got to celebrate that birthday together, but least they’re able to be heard together on Life Is Good, which sounds incredible.
Nas' album "Life Is Good" gets released on July 17. Check out the radio rip of "Cherry Wine" below.
