German pop-punk outfit Killerpilze (Killer Fungus) formed in Wertigen. Singer/guitarist Johannes Halbig assembled the original lineup, enlisting brother Fabian to play drums before recruiting lead guitarist Max Schlichter and bassist Andreas Schlagenhaft. Though the four members' ages still ranged anywhere from 16 to 13, Killerpilze issued its debut LP, Van Vome Durch Sie Punkallee, in 2004. Invasion der Killerpilze followed two years later, scoring the hit single "Richtig Scheiße."
