K Camp turned Drizzy s How Bout Now into a universal motif!
What better way to compare the past with the present(and the future, if your present's as solid as you think it is) than a remix over Drake's 'How Bout Now'? I mean it, it doesn't have to be about that "girl + no money(then) = thumbs down, girl + money(now) = fuck off" equation. It can literally be about anything. The come up, the ups, the downs, the setbacks, the drawbacks, the fame, the laughter, the sorrow, the pain, childhood, adulthood, art, life, and so on. K Camp widens up the view a little bit on this remix, and actually talks about all that, rather than wallowing in the 'ex came back' closet.
There are visions of what kind of closure art can give you. In the intro, for example, 'this shit right here my therapy'. Or how else can you put it better than this: 'I ain't here to make friends, I'm here to make music'. The man's an artist, his personal life ended once he picked up the mic. The same happened to all working men: you pick up the hammer, from 9 to 5 you're a carver, you pick up the suit and tie, from there on you're an attorney. Just kidding, but to stretch it a little bit further, Jesus never came back to his life, family, friends, after he set on his mission. The artist can pledge to the same unequivocal mission: 'I ain't here to make friends, I'm here to make music'. There it goes.
Hate - a powerful catalyst for success. 'Shout out you hatin' ass niggas, man / Y'all made me go harder, forreal'. We hear that. Keep a cookie from a child, he'll most likely crave for it more. We all know the setbacks hate may push our way. But it can also mean some negative, de-constructive, criticism. That's good too, helps you leave a foundry if it's unstable, build somewhere else altogether. Never forget to separate haters from critics. The first party craves the cookie, the second one seeks the truth, or at least a healthy art state.
The song's separated into some distinct parts that we've marked Verse 1, 2 and 3, but they're not verses. The man leaves you a little space, so you can hear Drake's beat on the background, because honestly, he's got you so hooked, you can barely tell what's playing in the back. He also changes themes from one breath-taker to another, so be a cool one and listen up: the man's got a lot to say. Word!
