MTV VMAs 2010: Bieber and Drake performances
MTV Video Music Awards is still on and Justin Bieber who got only one nomination this year is not walking home empty-handed as he won the nod. Beating Ke$ha, Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj and Broken Bells, he was voted Best New Artist. Humbled by his first VMA prize, the Canadian singer said, "Wow, thank you so much everybody. This means a lot to me; it means a lot to my family."
Although Eminem was not in the house, he added another gong on September 12 that evening before Bieber's win. Announced by "Modern Family" actress Sofia Vergara, his "Not Afraid" music video was named Best Hip-Hop Video, beating Jay-Z and Kid Cudi and once again preventing B.o.B and Drake from taking home an award.
While the other musical guests delivered their performances inside Los Angeles' Nokia Theater, young Bieber chose to bring his entourage outside the venue. Bieber entered the set, riding a red car with a number of female fans chasing him. He catered his fans with "Baby" and "Somebody to Love" and made a solo drum performance.
While Bieber was only backed by dancers, Drake got support from Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz when performing "Fancy" for audience flocking inside the building. Their performance was announced by "The Social Network" cast including past VMAs performer Justin Timberlake.
