Program funding was cut and now he's living in the gutter<br />

No family to take him in, no shelter from the changing weather<br />

He made a sign, improper spelling, now he's ambling in the street<br />

Mental illness takes it's strongest toll on those who have the least<br />

Society just looks the other way he cannot help how he was made<br />

Tax dollars spent on more important things<br />

Imported sand under the swings<br />

Another hospital has been shut down<br />

The ears of good conscience don't hear a sound<br />

They'd rather simply look the other way<br />

Kids without support are finding their way into trouble<br />

Ending up in prison before even growing stuble<br />

No case workers in the system with the necessary training<br />

A schizophrenic diagnosis would have been enough to save him<br />

<br />

But now he's in a prison doing smack<br />

Abuses much worse behind the night guard's back<br />

Deinstitutionalization plans have failed<br />

The problem's getting worse on an exponential scale<br />

Thousands of lives lost on spending cuts<br />

Jails and streets: a home if nuts<br />

We'd rather simply look the other way
