Watch Garbage's vintage music video in support of comeback single Blood for Poppies
Inspired by old silent movies, Garbage have released their official music video to support their comeback single "Blood for Poppies". The clip includes vintage footage that follows Shirley Manson and her bandmates as they "hopped around little pockets of Los Angeles creating a gorgeous surrealist dream." Directed by renowned fashion photographer and filmmaker Matt Irwin, the clip brings old movie work inspired by such artists as Magritte, Maya Deren, Luis Brunel and Francesca Woodman to the future. It was revealed and explained by the band in a Ustream chat, where they answer fans' questions about their new project. <I>The song is meant to feel sort of like an abstract dream, Shirley said. The inspiration came from a story I had read in The Los Angeles Times about the opium trade and also from watching the documentary 'Restrepo'. It's not literal in any sense whatsoever but it's a song about disorientation and delusion and the human struggle to stay sane in the face of insanity.
"Blood for Poppies" is the first single from Garbage's new album Not Your Kind of People their very first one in four years, which is due in the United States on May 15th . Meanwhile, starting April 9th the band will hit the road in a tour across the country, promoting their album.
