Frank A. Edwards - There Gose Little John Tom lyrics
rate meThere gose little John Tom with his overalls on
working at the towns wooded grounds.
He'd eye up a tree then cuts it on down
and split 'em darn logs with an ax swinging thudding sound.
Come lunch time whistle he'd use a breeze to dust off down
and has his lunch on a wood chip mound
with his little legs dangling down
like a little rag doll clown.
With a tooth picking burp and chewing his tobacco
he's ready to work loading carts with split logs high on a hog
and tops 'em off with tie down tarps.
Oh yea there gose little John Tom with his overalls on
working at the towns wooded grounds.
Chewing his tobacco,he makes way to gather big stones
and bust 'em down with hammers and chisels,
making sparks fly around from busting stones on the ground.
He'd load 'em stones on a flat bed cart,
and gets 'em ready for the town.
Makes way for another stone busting round.
The day is gone and little Tom passed out on the darn ground.
Oh yea there gose little John Tom with his overalls on,
his working days are gone gone, gone.
I'm sad to say little Tom
can't do this work no more.
I see the tears he tries to hide
from the job he worked with pride
with sore hands and blisters deep in side
and tears he couldn't abide
He stills chews his tobbaco with pride
Oh yea there gose little John Tom, his working days are gone
