A rather old album by now, but worth mentioning: Fliptrix - Polyhymnia
Once a rapper raises the bar and introduces rap to a more sophisticated, sometimes fast, other times slightly indescifrable lyrics, listeners start avoiding him. Music is often perceived as this soon to calm me down and relax me outer intervention, rather than that make me think provocative collision. Substance rap, let's call it that, is soon to walk classical music's destiny path. Old scruffy men in suits, with monocles on their left eye and a pocket watch are meant to listen to it.
This is the same with Cassidy, Ces Cru, Raekwon, Dilated Peoples, Your Old Droog, Big Boi, Psyche Origami, Apollo Brown's acolytes, Dark Lotus, Swollen Members and, last, but not least, Fliptrix.
Although deep and tough to get, Pharoahe Monch, Twista and Yelawolf have caught the public's eye. I don't know how they slipped the relaxed listener's firewall.
Flixtrix, this 'pioneer of the UK hip-hop scene'(http://www.undergroundhh.com) , delivered us The High Way, Deep Set Thoughts and Wylin Out.
In his latest lp he talks about the passing of the body and the resistance through art. The everlasting work that will define us and leave us with a name in the world's hierarchy. He also touches themes like memory, life, thought, and is rarely committed to his personal self. He's more of a man of general reflection, conscious of how flawed the innate perception is. He raises his personal experience to an outer circle, where life philosophy, everyday meaning and cultural intrigue define a bigger pattern. From this pattern he sidelines his rap curricula.
We highly recommend you listen to Jeheeze, Alchemical Vessel and Reflections, off this new album. We also got you Praise The Sun in the link below.
