Train Your Mind, and how the cycle never ends, with Dizzy Wright
'It's been 20 years since 1995', goes Dizzy's leitmotif. In this new song that dropped at midnight (tnx to this man's complete devotion to his fans), we find nothing less than sheer awareness. This is an artist that literally knows the world he's living in. He's not Pac, because Pac came in a world of struggle, and the world reached its tentacles and pulled him in ONLY because that was what the world needed at that time. Twenty years later, the world's a bit slicker, the world's in need of a different healing, as another crisis is surging through its veins. You cannot shake the world anymore, not as Pac did, anyway, and La'Reonte Wright knows this. People tend to retract in front of that aggressive stance: we're wounded, we don't wanna listen anymore, we seek means of tuning out, of fading out, everywhere we go. Again, Dizzy Wright knows this. Ergo, his verse: "Focused on variety, not the new 2Pac, cuz I'm here to do this quietly".
What's that "this" that he mentioned? What's he focused on? Well, we might go on a limb and say that he's focused on the same thing that Pac was focused on. Healing, changing the world, doing it for the sake of truth, and not for the cash. We were giving Dizzy's 'Tha Truth' another listen. That song's 4 years old, and you know what line struck us? "What happened to role models? [...] we try to teach these kids to be positive, they turn around and do the opposite". Then four years later, in this very song: "Now I'm in it [...] positivity and empowerment". In the hook he goes "try to relax and vibe to it [...] see the good in everything". Might I allude you that this guys is 24 years old! Back in the day, when he was making his first steps in hip-hop he was 19, 20 years old. Those are a man's real 'middle ages', as in 'dark ages'. That's when he's reckless, and unarguably the most shapeshifting creature alive. Well, Dizzy Wright had the same mindset. And that's something!
1995: the year Pac's most important album dropped. Some speak of the greatest and most influential album of all time (Atlanta Post). Steve Huey of AllMusic magazine says 'Me Against The World' was "confessional", "reflective", and "soul-baring". For Dizzy Wright, 1995 is the year rap began, and there's no doubt about it. His music grabs some of the light 2Pac's music reflected onto the world.
What cycle were we referring to in the news title? Cali has the reputation of being the epicenter of the youth's 'libertinage'. It's wild, it's the most divergent point occidental culture has to offer when comparing with the East. Cali girls have a devious reputation, everyone knows about the parties on the West Coast, about the gang wars in the west, nobody's unaware of the meaning of 'cali weed', and so on. Well, although Pac did some damage and ended up in jail, tho he was kind of an unchained spirit, he was a moral standpoint for the West. 20 years after, another Cali representative is spreading out good vibes and those strong moral beliefs. But altogether in a more sophisticated way, a more chameleonic way. We're not saying Dizzy Wright is better than 2Pac. Hell, not even he's saying it. All we're saying is that, like Pac adapted to his time, Dizzy's one of the few artists that's adapting to his time. And that doesn't involve showing off his stuffed pockets and filling the scene with lascivious ladies. He's 100% against the wave. And we really appreciate it!
