As a passionate and ambitious child, Cosima De Vito always dedicated herself to her music. Singing was a centre point in the large extended Italian family from which she hails, and Cosima believes her voice was passed onto her from her grandfather, a great Italian tenor. She is very proud to have been given this gift. With the ability to sing in both English and Italian, two of her favourite songs are “O sole mio” and “torna a surriento”.
Cosima’s first encounter with singing in public was at the age of nine when she proudly took out first prize in a talent quest singing “The greatest love of all”. The years following consisted of formal vocal training, working in close association with songwriters and producers in Australia and America, and even managing to squeeze in a degree in Commerce.
Cosima is now a professional and experienced singer, but she still has idols with Karen Carpenter, Whitney Houston, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion and Shirley Bassey among her favourite singers.
In reaching the top 3 on the TV phenomenon Australian Idol, Cosima captivated the hearts of many viewers across the nation with “that voice”.
Cosima’s uniqueness and appeal also lies in her ability to sing practically any genre of music: from upbeat and funky rhythm and blues, to sassy and jazzy numbers, to spectacular and heart wrenching ballads.
