2011 BEt Awards: Chris Brown on top of Winners List!
BET has just kicked off its 2011 music awards at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles having the first live performance from Queen of R&B Soul Mary J. Blige. The June 26 event, hosted by Kevin Hart had as first winner of the night Chris Brown which grabbed the Best Male R&B Artist.
The singer, who lead nomination list with six nods, has bested the likes of Cee-Lo Green, Usher, Bruno Mars and Trey Songz. "All of my fans are everything to me. I do this only for them," he said while on stage with the trophy. "I appreciate all the support. I know it's been a long road, so I appreciate every blessing in front of me."
Female rapper Nicki Minaj was the next to be awarded as Best Female Hip-Hop Artist. She was accompanied by her Young Money family Lil Wayne and Drake when coming to the stage and she said : "I can't believe I won" .
Wiz Khalifa was announced as 2011 Best New Artist at the event. The Pittsburgh rapper wins over J. Cole, Bruno Mars, Miguel and Willow Smith. He kissed his girlfriend Amber Rose and then came on stage to humbly say : "I'm not used to winning stuff, so I didn't come with no speech tonight" . "But I want to thank everybody at Rostrum Records, ... all my fans, Taylor [Gang] and all the young people who promote positivity and just enjoying yourself, this is for y'all."
Outside music field, BET presents Serena Williams with Sportswoman of the Year and Michael Vick with Sportsman of the Year. The former beats Tamika Catchings, Candice Dupree, Maya Moore and Venus Williams, while the latter pushes aside Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Derrick Rose. Taraji P. Henson and Idris Elba won Best Actress and Actor respectively.
The other winners at the awards show included: Jennifer Hudson as Best Female R&B Artist and Chris Robinson as <B>Video Director of the Year.
