Playing a fresh blend of pop/punk sounds and timeless rock and roll hooks, As Advertised is quickly showing the world just what it means to rock. Hailing from the small town of Jesup, Iowa, the band that started in the basement is now bringing their songs to the masses. Formed by singer JD Campbell and guitarist David in '96, the band has since gone through many different lineups. It was when brothers Drew and Mitch Fischels joined that the band really started to solidify. Playing small shows and parties, As Advertised made somewhat of a name for themselves; but it wasn't until finding drummer Jason Cutsforth that As Advertised truly developed its sound; a sound that has been called "Peppy teen rock with plenty of pop hooks, melancholy melodies, and polite punk bite"-listen.com. As Advertised's debut album "Let's Just Be Friends", released May 24th, marks a significant step in the band's history. Recorded, produced, and designed by the band in the spring of '01, the album really displays the dedication this band has. "We did this whole thing by ourselves." says Fischels, "There were a lot of late nights. This was our life. I barely graduated from high school." With radio friendly hits such as "I Know, I Know" and "My Soap Opera Life", the album truly shows the feeling that this band puts into all of its songs. One of the things that sticks out most about this band is the "Hey, I've felt like that before!" feeling you get when you listen to the CD. "We write songs about whatever we happen to be feeling at any given moment. It's not like we had a meeting and decided that all our songs should have some consistent theme," says Campbell, "We just write about the things that we feel, which mostly consist of girls and fears of growing up". Regardless of the deeper meaning, it's easy to see that the songs on the album speak clearly to anyone that has ever felt the all of the feelings and angst that come with growing up. Just a quick listen to some fan comments will show the way people feel about this music.
