| Urb | | Booka Shade knows how to make music. From the moment the emotional, swelling strings of “Outskirts” strike the nerves, it is apparent that their grasp of song progression is second to none. On The Sun & The Neon Light, the German duo (Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier) manages to create songs that are all extremely individual and unique while managing to stay close to the dark, cryptic flavor of the album as a whole. Oh, but you shouldn’t worry; there are plenty of dance floor moments too. While tracks such as “Dusty Boots” brings forth a slight feeling of observance, complete with crawling synths and Law and Order-ish guitar, the perfect set of drums kick in soon- indicating definite danceability. Speaking of variety, “Sweet Lies” can only be described as the best electro r&b song every created. “You Don’t Know What You Mean To Me (J’s Lullaby),” as the last song on the album, ties everything together very well....full text |
